i guess i’ll weigh in on this one, as i have a trial brief to avoid and all

i know i’m oversimplifying things and this is a bit of an eighth grade argument, but i sort of think that if it bothers you that kanye showed up to occupy wall street, it should bother you when straight couples show up at marriage equality rallies. granted, it might be a little more comparable if said hypothetical straight couple publicly went down on each other at said rallies, which i guess would be analogous (yet still a ridiculously exaggerated comparison) to mr. west’s donning of a pricey watch at the protests.

what it’s really about is that a lot of people think kanye is a whiny douche and that any political platform he places himself upon must only occur with the intent of self-promotion. this might be accurate, but it doesn’t really concern me. nobody’s talking about how russell fucking simmons was with him, and that guy can afford things so extravagant that they haven’t been invented yet. bottom line: what better support for the cause is there than a bunch of rich people saying, “i am the 1%, and i absolutely think you should tax the fuck out of me. look at all this ridiculously unnecessary shit i can buy with the stupid amount of money i have!!!”?

let the guy continue to dazzle us with his swag, for christ’s sake. i hope he shows up tomorrow in a 2011 one-of-a-kind reissue of eddie murphy’s purple leather tux from “raw” and a crown made of diamonds. i actually think it would help matters.
